Arthur FitzGerald, Director, Go Mad

TEFL International is a registered 501 c3 non profit organization in Oregon doing business under the registered name of Go Mad. Formed in 1998, TEFL International has assisted approximately 20,000 people fulfill the dream of living and working overseas.
Art FitzGerald 41 years in the environmental field and is an unquestioned expert on environmental policy. His career in the environmental field is listed below—with some of the more impressive experiences highlighted:
- 17 years in environmental consulting to all industry sectors and to governments in Canada, China, Malaysia, Mexico, Japan, Hungary, Russia, and Turkey.
- At the invitation of then Senator Al Gore, testified in US Senate hearings—testimony contributed to advancement of US programs to eliminate ozone depleting solvents
- Trained by Al Gore on climate change as part of the Climate Change Project
- Consultant to:
§the World Bank/International Finance Corporation—author of 42
industry sector environmental guidelines for the World Bank and
subsequently oversaw the translation of these into Mandarin for subsequent distribution to Chinese industry and government agencies
§the InterAmerican Development Bank—study comparing environmental policies of several multilateral development banks
§the Caribbean Development Bank—study assessing effectiveness of policies
§the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development— reviewed the application of EBRD’s environmental guidelines by multiple financial intermediaries to projects in Croatia, Slovenia, FYR Macedonia, Serbia, and Bosnia Herzegovina
§Canadian International Development Agency—China-Canada Cooperative Project on Cleaner Production—provided advice to project team including Canadian members, China’s State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC), China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China’s State Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), Anhui Paper Company, and Fuyang Fertilizer on environmental policy and guidelines for industry
- Managing an office of 50 environmental engineers
- Corporate Director of Environment—developed and implemented environmental policy and programs at 34 manufacturing and research locations worldwide, including environmental audits, site remediation/cleanup projects, spill containment, and reduction/elimination programs for pollutants; lead the company to be the first multinational to eliminate all ozone depleting chemicals
- Key participant in co-founding ICOLP (Industry Cooperative for Ozone Layer Protection), a unique multi-nation industry/government initiative formed to assist companies worldwide with their programs to eliminate ozone depleting solvents
- Managed the first technology cooperation project to assist industry in developing countries to convert to non-ozone depleting technologies (Mexico); subsequently managed similar projects in Turkey and China; projects executed in partnership with national governments and the World Bank
- Chief Environmental Advisor for Canada’s export credit agency—responsible for environmental and social review of projects financed by EDC and key negotiator at OECD meetings of export credit agencies in creating one set of common environmental requirements
- Developed two online databases: (1) labelling, packaging and shipping of hazardous chemicals and (2) alternatives to ozone depleting chemicals
- Author of various technical manuals for industry and the United Nation’s Environment Programme (UNEP)
- Member of UNEP’s Solvents Technical Operations Committee
- Speaking to students at schools and universities, and to service clubs, governments and industry on environment issues
- Recipient of the US EPA’s Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award and UNEP’s Citation of Excellence and Certificate of Appreciation
Art is also President of The Almost Famous Players (27 developmentally challenged adults who perform musicals annually)
